A minor - 3/4 - Melody occurs in all parts. Bowings are only suggested. Some third position in first violin Written for my great-great great Grandfather Samuel Cleland. He was born in Ballywoollen, Down Northern Ireland in July of 1786. At the age of 27 he arrived in Orange County, New York to look for land and decided to go back to Ireland to marry Jane Jean Martin. In 1815 he immigrated to New York with his new wife and bought a stone house with 60 acres. In 1858, he bought a farm in the Janesville Township of Wisconsin. He and his wife had nine children. His son, Samuel Cleland was my great great grandfather. He and his wife Mary Ann McCartney had eight daughters. The eldest was my great grandmother Helen Burnett Cleland. Dedicated to all immigrants who make their way to the United States of America. (2:21)

Intermediate - C Major 4/4 - quarter, half eighth dotted half and dotted eighth notes. Four measure intro to legato melody offered in the Violin I. Contrasting staccato section offered in answer to melody. Optional third position in Violin I offered in variation of the melody. Triplet quarter over half note accompaniment (Hemiola) in B section of piece. Four measure bridge. Variation on staccato and legato themes offered in Violin II, Viola and Cello.

Intermediate - E Minor - 3/4 - quarter, eighth, half, dotted half. Some third position in Violin I. Slurs and ties. Syncopation in Viola, Cello and Bass. No easy parts. Piano Part. (2:21).

Easy - D Major 4/4 quarter, eighth, half and dotted half. Melody in Violin I until second half of the piece. Violin I Melodic motif answered in the viola and cello later in the piece. Ritardando to A Tempo in the middle of the piece and at the end. (2:36).

Advanced because of meter changes. Inspired by Bloch - B Minor and A Minor -5/4, 4/4 and 6/4 meters quarter, eighth, half and whole. Work on dynamic contrast with crescendo-decrescendo.
